Illustration for my novelette, "The Paradise That Never Was," which is the story of Benjamin D. Cox, a dead man walking in many ways. Successful on the surface, but dead on the inside due to an abusive childhood, Benjamin has thrown himself deep into religion to numb the pain.
This illustration is of a particular scene in the novelette, where Ben is surrounded by taxidermic models in the natural science section of the museum. He is, as he describes himself, the "anti-Adam," seeking to go back to the Age of Innocence. However, as he realizes later in the novelette, perhaps, there never was such a Paradise.
